Hey everyone! I’m so excited to drop another wild and weird character design into your feeds today. I have been on a huge kick lately with mixing up animals and food, and this one might just be one of my absolute favorites so far. Have you ever looked at the shape of a vegetable in the kitchen and thought it looked like something entirely different? That’s exactly what happened here.
Let’s call him the “Ele-plant”! I was sketching out the bulbous, curved shape of a classic eggplant and suddenly realized it was the absolute perfect body for a chubby, cartoonish elephant. I decided to give him a soft, pastel blue color instead of the usual deep purple to make his design feel a bit more whimsical, and paired it with a bright, warm orange for the inside of his big ears. The best part of the design, though, has to be the green leafy eggplant stem sitting right on top of his head like a tiny, natural hat!

There is something so incredibly therapeutic about just letting my mind wander and seeing what weird combinations end up on the digital canvas. Finding that sweet spot where a vegetable naturally morphs into an animal’s anatomy is such a fun, low-pressure creative puzzle. I wanted this piece to feel super soft, innocent, and just downright silly. I really hope this adorable little hybrid brightens up your day and brings a big smile to your face.
