“The rules have changed” illustration
Welcome to another addition to my growing collection of pigeon-powered art. This piece is titled “The rules have changed”, and it tackles perhaps the biggest subject of all: death. I wanted to create an absurd twist on the ultimate finality.
Here is what hides in the details of this divine interaction:
- pigeon power: the Grim Reaper, complete with his dark robe and scythe, is just sitting there on a stone block. This standard messenger of death has been completely blindsided. The pigeon, looking calm but very serious in its white shirt, has snuck up behind him and is covering his eye sockets.
- the message: with the speech bubble saying “The rules have changed”, the bird is making it clear that there is a new boss in town. This little urban bird has asserted its dominance over the inevitable.
- minimalist design: I kept the background very simple with a soft mint green and used clean, comic-book lines to keep the focus entirely on the humorous power shift happening on that stone bench.
It is a playful take on life, death, and who really calls the shots. The answer is, apparently, the pigeon.
